Day 6–Recovery

I almost thought that this picture would be the whole post tonight…

It is such a relief to hold our son again! He is so precious, but his little cry is so pitiful. His throat is dry and sore from having the tubes down them for 5 days.

But he is doing very well. He’s off all meds now except children’s Tylenol. Can you believe that? 6 days after open heart surgery and he’s on over-the-counter meds. God is such an amazing healer and designer of a body that heals very quickly!

We can tell that he’s hurting, though. He’s gotta be sore and he’s certainly bruised up from the IV’s, tubes, etc. But the key today has been that he’s eating well. Specifically, he’s nursing well. That might punch his ticket out of the ICU sometime tonight.

What we’re thankful for tonight:

Our parents have been able to come visit Asher a lot! They have been here helping us through everything (and keeping Brennan a lot). They have been able to see Asher progress and start becoming more of himself again.

Speaking of Brennan, we were able to see him on Saturday. I can’t believe we made it 5 days without him! He seems to be doing great and loving the attention he is getting from our extended families.

In keeping with tradition, we also want to thank fellow CCC staff friend Courtney Pope for dinner tonight. Dee-lish “south-of-the-border” cuisine from someone who has lived in South America for 7 years (Argentina, to be exact).

And, as always, we are so thankful for each of you praying for us. We think of you often and we’re so encouraged by you all.
