Day 4–Recovery

And so we wait. And rest. We’ve been advised to rest now, because once his breathing tube comes out, he wakes up, and he can “talk” to us again. So we’re sleeping while he’s sleeping so that we have the strength to cry when he cries.

Well, I think we’re ready to put the little guy out there now; all these tubes are successfully bringing him back to full health, so we decided they can’t be too scary!

 

Bottom Line:

It was a very uneventful day for Asher. He did get a bath. He also “outgrew” his catheter because he was “voiding” so much. So they put a bigger one in and he did his job very well. It looks like he’s taken care of much of the fluid that they were waiting to come out.

Next Step:

Tomorrow has potential to be a big day. If he does well tonight then he could get the breathing tube pulled in the morning! His last two chest tubes are already scheduled to come out as well. If all that goes well, we could be movin’-on-up to the general Children’s Hospital and begin a feeding schedule!

But, we’re trying not to get ahead of ourselves. Patience. Endurance. Perseverance. (Maybe if we keep saying it, we’ll believe it ) Please pray for Asher to be ready to come off the breathing machine, for him to continue to pee out all the fluid, and for the doctors to have wisdom in the timing of all these steps. Of course pray for us as well.

What we’re thankful for tonight:

Philip and Lisa Todd are special people. If you know them from Providence or Capital Community Church, you already know that. They have two precious little girls (the youngest, Annalise, is in Brennan’s  AWANAS group and Sunday school class). They have walked in our shoes before, with Annalise spending several months in and out of hospitals awhile back battling a rare abnormality with her pancreas. The Todd’s have really taken us on and ministered to us in ways we didn’t even know we needed help. Tonight they not only brought food, but sound tips and advice, some crafts for a scrapbook, lots of hugs, and of course a tasty smoothie for Erin.

Like I said, the Todd’s are special people. God has brought them through so much and now He’s using them to help bring others through so much.

We’re also grateful for the love and care shown by all the staff here at UNC! We’ve had some great nurses and doctors really go above and beyond to care for us.
