First of all we want to say thank you to everyone who has prayed for us and helped us through this time! We have been so blessed the last few weeks. Although Asher is stable and doing well now, the next few months will be challenging for us as we approach his heart surgery. The exact date of surgery is not yet determined, but we know it will be when Asher is 3-5 months old. We’ll post updates on his health as we continue to meet with doctors.
Many of you have asked what you can do to help our family during this time. We have been humbled by how many people have reached out to us. We really appreciate your kindness and sincerity. We put together a few ideas of some needs that we have.
Here’s a quick read of some ways to help. See below for details.
1. Pray for our family
2. Play with Brennan
3. Watch Brennan during doctor appointments
4. Give financially to help with medical bills or towards purchasing a van, give diapers
5. Call us, come over, encourage us
1. Pray for our family- We truly believe in the power of prayer! Please pray for the requests listed below. If you are a Facebook User you can also join this Facebook Group to get weekly prayer requests. Click here to join our prayer team!
~Asher to keep eating well and growing; the surgeon would like for him to be at 10 lbs. before they perform the heart surgery.
~Asher’s O2 saturation levels to stay around 90% until he reaches 10 lbs.
~Our family to have wisdom, patience, and love for one another as we rearrange our lives, our schedules, and our finances to make all these doctor appointments, surgeries, and physical therapy.
~Us to trust in the Lord’s provision for all our needs and for us to remember that He is in control.
~Brennan; he is a great big brother, but a lot of attention is going towards Asher and his medical needs. Pray that Brennan gets the love and attention from us that he needs and that he continues to grow in wisdom at Pre-school and AWANAs.
~Our ministry; we will miss out on several key events in the coming months (training/equipping conferences, international coaching trips, etc) due to Asher’s surgery and recovery. Pray that God meets the needs of our Interns and STINTers through this time and that our team will have the capacity to help in that process.
2. Play with Brennan- We need help giving Brennan the time and attention he needs to grow and learn. We would love for him to get more time out with kids his age and time away from our house. We are looking for a handful of people to spend time with him each week- mainly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. You could take him to a museum, park, or just about anything. This will be needed even more around Asher’s surgery since we will be “living” at the hospital.
3. Watch Brennan during doctor appointments- Asher has appointments with many different doctors. These appointments usually last about 2 hours each. If you are able to help in this way then email us and we’ll keep a short list of people to call when we have an appointment.
4. Give financially to help with medical bills or towards purchasing a van, give diapers- We have several ways that you can help financially if you would like. We have excellent medical coverage, but the bills are still significantly larger than our budget can handle. We have been saving for many years to buy a second vehicle (a minivan) for our family, but now it looks as if we will have to set aside those savings to pay medical bills. The good news is that Campus Crusade for Christ makes allowances to cover both costs through our staff account. In other words, every out-of-pocket medical cost is fully reimbursable through our staff account with CCC and we can also receive an allowance of $15,000 towards the purchase of a vehicle through our staff account. The catch is that we have to have adequate funding in our staff account to cover these expenses.
So if you’d like to give towards Asher’s medical expenses or towards replenishing our minivan savings, you can do that by giving to our ministry with CCC and receive a tax deduction for your gift. This is our personal ministry account, and we’ll see every penny of your donation minus a 12% administrative fee. All gifts need to be made out to Campus Crusade for Christ and sent to our address: 104 Longneedle Ct. Raleigh, NC 27603 or you can click here to give online.
If you would like to give diapers or a gift for Asher we are registered at Target. You can look up the registry online or at a Target store. It is listed under Marty and Erin Mullis.
5. Call us, come over, encourage us- We’d love to hear from you! It is such an encouragement to know that people care about us and that they are praying for us. At times we may feel isolated since we are not able to get out as much as we used to. Please call, email, or text us with encouraging words or just to catch up. You are also invited to come over to our home. Spending time with people is refreshing to us.
If there is something that you’d like to help with then please email us erin.mullis@uscm.org or marty.mullis@uscm.org . We can talk more about the specifics over email. Our needs may change once it is time for Asher’s surgery. We’ll post more in the coming weeks. Thanks in advance for anything you are able to do. We could not make it without your love and support!
