Hello again! Sorry for the few days hiatus, but there has not been much to report back. Tomorrow is a big day, but we’ll get to that in a minute.
Asher has been doing VERY WELL. He’s still “eating” through the tube in his nose that goes down into his stomach. We put his milk through a syringe into that tube. He seems very confused by this (and rightly so), but it has the desired effect – he gets his belly full!
Otherwise, he’s off his pain meds, IV’s, and other sensors. He still has a drainage tube in his chest that is draining off the nasty junk from his surgery. But he’s been up and about, sitting in his “bumbo” seat (see below), and playing in his swing. Thanks to our friends, the Barber’s, he has a new Teddy Bear that he just loves!
As I mentioned before, tomorrow is a big day- he gets the “swallow” test. They will have him on the x-ray machine and watch him swallow small amount of liquids and solids of various textures. They really want to check to make sure his throat and windpipe have no “leaks.”
If there are leaks, then they’ll have to correct that (they haven’t talked to us about that part – but I have to assume further surgery would be needed), but if not, then Asher gets the green light to assume nursing again. If he does well with that, then we could be on our way home by Sunday.
-Asher as he gets this swallow test; he has to go several hours without anything to eat, so pray for his tummy to be “filled.” Also, obviously, pray that the test goes well and that there are no leaks!
-Us to have physical strength; we all have some sinus “crud” and are generally feeling yucky.
-Brennan as he is starting to get homesick. It was a joy to have him here for a visit last night (see above), but he didn’t understand why he couldn’t stay.
